Thunder II is a 1965 Dodge Coronet A-990 Hemi Charger. It is number 48 of 101 Dodge's built for drag racing only. One of few painted DD-1 medium blue iridescent. Ordered by Jim Almeter, Don Townsend and Neil Marzolf of Attica N.Y. Ordered through sub dealer Greco Dodge in Darien
NY and the order was passed on to the main dealer Funke & Hawley Dodge in Batavia NY. Have original certificate of sale from Greco Dodge and source of ownership Funke & Hawley Dodge. Funke & Hawley Dodge was the oldest family owned Dodge dealership in the U.S. (1916-2008). Also have the paper work on the Retail Installment contract from Marine Midland Bank showing monthly installment payments and that a 1958 Chev. Bel Air was traded in for money for this loan.
The car was used for drag racing in N.Y State and Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada. It was also raced at the 1965 U.S. Nationals. In spring of 1967 car was sold to Jerry Vanek in Toronto, Ontario and was painted red and run as the 1/4 Mile Hustler.
ln 1970 the car was sold to Don Cloake and Gord Coats, they painted it red., white and blue and raced the car under the sponsorship of Jackson Motors of Barrie, Ontario. In 1973 the car was sold to Brian Thomas from Toronto and he painted it multi blues and raced under the sponsorship of Mr Fudge Candy Company of Toronto and Frank Elliotts Drag Supply. The car was bought by me in the fall of 1973, it was then painted red, black and white. I raced the car
from 1974 to 1977. It sat until I started restoration in 1994 and finished in 2008. Restored it to the original Thunder 11 look
and then took it to the All Hemi Reunion in Quaker City Ohio in 2008, where the car was reunited with one of the original owners Jim Almeter. Have lots of history on the car and lots of old pictures.
